Strategy: rewrite addition sentences with whole tens
One strategy for addition questions involving carrying (regrouping) is to break one of the addends into two numbers, one of them chosen to make a whole ten with the other addend. So 52 + 9 becomes 52 + 8 + 1 = 60 +1 = 61.
